SENIOR MANAGER OF TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT UNIT - NATIONAL FACILITY FOR GENOMICS

July 11th Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health.
HT is composed of five Centers.
Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, and Health Data Science.
The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.
The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Senior Manager specialized in Technology Development and Methods implementation for the IU4 Technology Development unit of the National Facility for Genomics.
The National Facility for Genomics provides state-of-the-art and innovative services in genomics.
Its core mission is to implement robust experimental and analytical workflows to probe all major domains of genomic exploration, including but not limited to the analysis of DNA, RNA, chromatin and other markers of epigenetic and regulatory activity.
These techniques can be applied to diverse areas of biology, with resolution spanning to whole organisms, to tissues or individual cells.
Overall, NF Genomics aims to empower research in all domains of genomics for the Italian scientific community at large.
The NF for Genomics foresees four Infrastructural Units (IU).
UI1 High Throughput Sequencing mainly focused on providing state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing services.
This dedicated unit specializes in delivering top-tier genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics analyses, employing the latest protocols for sample processing and sequencing.
UI2 Multi-Omics Technologies specialized in multi-omics technologies.
Its focus extends to providing cutting-edge services in single-cell and spatial multi-omics analysis, as well as long-read sequencing.
This Unit closely collaborates with the Tissue Processing Unit and NF-Imaging, specifically dedicated to implementing spatial transcriptomics protocols.
UI3 Computational Genomics is the computational core of the NF Genomics, the team is dedicated to developing, implementing, and maintaining automated pipelines for the pre-processing and primary data analysis of sequencing data.
This unit closely collaborates with the NF for Data Handling and Analysis.
UI4Technology Development stays at the forefront of innovation, this dedicated team is committed to methods and technology development.
The highly qualified staff is continuously engaged in the evaluation of new technologies and instruments, considering them for acquisition into our facility.
We specialize in the optimization and scale-up of custom experimental protocols, offering these services to the broader scientific community.
In the context above outlined, the Senior Manager of the Technology Development unit, reporting directly to the Head of the NF for Genomics, will become responsible of the team of the Technology Development unit of the National Facility for Genomics.
S(He) will be responsible of co-develop experimental protocols with external/internal users and manufacturing companies, foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and methodologies.
Additionally, this role will be crucial in producing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for custom protocols and laboratory operations, enhancing reliability and standardizing quality across our services.
The new colleague will be collaborating with the computational unit of the facility and the NF for Data Handling and Analysis to evaluate and implement new computational pipelines, ensuring that the NF Genomics’ services remain at the cutting edge of technological innovation.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of the NF for Genomics and will have the following key tasks and responsibilities.
Be responsible of importing custom protocols developed by researchers into the Facility, optimizing them, standardizing them, making them functional on automation systems or making them work on single cells.
The goal of her/his work will be to be able to provide custom protocols as future services offered by the Facility to the scientific community.
To contribute to the development of new protocols and the rapid standardization/implementation of new approaches for bespoke needs.
New methodologies are expected to derive from collaborative interactions with other groups at HT or with external users by implementing selected priority areas.
A key mission will be to enable external users to make use of the facility and to be involved in technology development activities.
So parte of the role will consist in being involved in the recruitment, training and mentoring of facility staff and of external users.
Responsibilities of the Senior Manager, Technology Development Unit.
Implementation and Resource Management.
Implement priorities and resource planning for the facility.
Manage funding and access charges, conducting periodic reviews to ensure sustainability and competitiveness.
Prepare for facility reviews by external experts.
Training and Career Development.
Promote and organize training programs for external and internal users of the Genomics National Facility.
Foster staff career development and networking opportunities.
Select, lead, and mentor facility staff, including first-line computational support.
Operational Supervision.
Supervise sample preparation, data collection, and evaluation support.
Continuously optimize protocols and maximize cost-effectiveness.
Ensure that technology development and method implementation activities are world-class.
Monitor technological developments that could benefit the facility.
Design and advise on IT services to meet facility and user requirements.
Interact with manufacturers and engineers of relevant equipment.
Collaboration and Innovation.
Cooperate with external and internal groups to implement novel technologies and methods.
Build effective links and collaborations within HT and with the Italian scientific community.
Develop connections with other national and international genomics facilities/labs in the field of technology development.
Participate actively in the overall development of NF facilities.
Mandatory requirements.
+5 years of hands-on experience in the field of Technology development, research innovation and methods implementation; PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, e.
.
molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or a related field of science; Documented experience in the implementation of new methods and technologies or in research innovation in the field of High throughput sequencing and/or multi-omics analysis; Excellent laboratory skills and trouble-shooting.; Fluency in English – HT is international research institute.
Preferred requirements.
Previous experience in equivalent managerial role in Genomics Core Facility/Genomics projects, Ability to set up and coordinate bioinformatics analysis in support of new experimental methods and pipelines; Good Italian knowledge.
Organizational and social skills.
Ability to interact effectively with internal and external teams and work synergistically to drive projects forward; Meticulous organization; Proven leadership, communication, team building and problem-solving skills.
