Coordinator : Strategic Planning Unit Manager Type of contract : Individual Engagement Contract Total Contract Amount : EUR 40.000 per year Term : Eleven months (01/02/2025 - 30/12/2025), renewable for another 22 months Duty Station : Rome General description of the project Launched in 2020, ICCROM’s Our Collections Matter (OCM) initiative aims to accelerate, increase, and amplify activities that support sustainable development through the use, development, and conservation of heritage collections in museums, libraries, archives, and other collections-based organizations worldwide. As part of its key forthcoming activities, ICCROM-OCM will join an international consortium to implement the Transforming Our World: Collections at the Hearth of life-long learning and Education project (TOWCHED), a 3-year project funded by the European Union (EU). TOWCHED will showcase the transformative potential of inclusive, collections-based interventions to effectively engage citizens and communities in sustainable development, with a special focus on children and youth. The outcomes of multiple field studies conducted across Europe will be critically assessed and shared, providing a powerful, field-tested roadmap for making Europe, and our world, a better place. One of our key innovations is the application of the Human Rights-Based Approach as a project planning tool. This approach, foundational to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aims to foster meaningful and inclusive participation, ensuring access and decision-making for everyone involved. Key Deliverables and Tasks The primary objective of this role is to assist ICCROM in implementing the TOWCHED project, thereby contributing to the OCM initiative. Under the supervision of the TOWCHED project coordinator and in close collaboration with the project team at ICCROM, the consultant will: Assist with gathering reports on the implementation of the SDGs in EU countries, including Voluntary National Reviews, Sector Reviews, and Voluntary Local Reviews. Assist with identifying how cultural institutions (museums, libraries, archives) are represented in these reports. Help to identify key contacts in relevant countries, in terms of who provides and receives information on culture-related activities for the SDGs. Assist with gathering sources of information, good practices, lessons learnt, academic articles, and reports on how cultural institutions are contributing to the educational aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Assist with the collation of relevant laws and policies regarding informal education, ESD, and relevant cultural and heritage policies, as required. Assist with the analysis and presentation/communication of relevant data gathered from different sources and stakeholders. Assist with the planning and preparation of training and development events, and workshops, as part of the TOWCHED project. Assist with communication, organization, and facilitation of events related to the TOWCHED project. Assist with the development of communications materials, including toolkits, reports and other communications. Communicate the TOWCHED project to a range of stakeholders. Assist with the identification of appropriate opportunities to share the TOWCHED project. Assist with the development of a social impact assessment of the project, including in the development of consultation exercises, facilitation of consultation exercises, review and report-writing. Prepare technical reports for the EU as needed concerning the implementation of ICCROM’s tasks in the TOWCHED project. Work with other members of the TOWCHED team, taking part in relevant meetings and training events, facilitating and helping organizing events as required. Provide additional technical support as required concerning the implementation of ICCROM-led tasks in the TOWCHED project. Assist with the implementation of OCM activities related to the TOWCHED project. Required qualifications: Education Advanced university degree in development and cultural studies or related areas, or equivalent experience (to be demonstrated in the application); specialization in one or more areas related to sustainable development, human rights, community engagement, museum studies, collections management, primary and youth education, and/or public policy. Minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience leading or working as part of teams in cultural heritage-related initiatives, preferably including EU-funded projects, with direct experience in data gathering and analysis, technical reporting, capacity building, stakeholder engagement and communication. Experience with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and/or policy briefings is an added advantage. Skills and knowledge Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team and with a range of international partners; proactive and pragmatic approach to working with various staff and stakeholders. Results-focused, good organizational and communication skills. Strong data gathering, organization, analysis, and reporting skills. Knowledge of the UN 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, human rights, heritage collections, and capacity building. A genuine passion for cultural heritage and promoting its conservation and use for sustainable development. Languages English and French are the working languages of ICCROM. This position requires fluency in English (both oral and written). The knowledge of French or any other language is an added advantage.
