The Animal Welfare Scientific Manager will drive global understanding of the in vivo scientific capabilities of external business partners to inform external vivarium planning and oversight.
This position requires leadership of a multidisciplinary team to conduct comprehensive assessments of in vivo capabilities and quality.
The Manager will ensure the selection of external vivarium partners aligns with our organizational strategy, championing the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) while addressing quality concerns and potential scientific impacts.
Key Responsibilities.
Collaborate with team members across various scientific fields to lead in vivo capability and quality assessments of external business partners.
Lead external vivarium planning to advance organizational strategy.
Promote a culture of care for animals, serving as an advocate for the 3Rs in all scientific assessments to elevate study quality and expectations.
Provide guidance to resolve quality concerns, ensuring an understanding of their potential scientific implications.
Participate on various local and global committees to represent the company externally.
Cultivate a collaborative environment that engages and influences diverse collaborator groups to achieve shared goals and a unified vision.
Demonstrate innovation and adaptability in a fast-paced environment to deliver high-quality results with minimal direction.
Conduct business process reviews focusing on continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
Engage in organizational harmonization initiatives, acting as an effective change agent.
Must complete all annual training requirements and perform all work per appropriate applicable policies and standards.
Perform other duties and matrix manages team members as assigned.
Qualifications Education.
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
A Master’s degree in management, project management, animal sciences, or related subject areas and/or other advanced degrees (DVM, VMD, Ph.
.) is preferred.
Experience and Skills.
Required.
Minimum of five (5) years in pharmaceutical or biotechnology in vivo sciences, or related experience in drug development is required.
Strong understanding of regulations, including USDA, FDA, GLPs, GMPs, animal welfare guidelines, and AAALAC standards is required.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with high-level of diplomacy is required.
Proficient in managing collaborations and maintaining working relationships is required.
Ability to work efficiently with multidisciplinary teams, driving performance through ownership and energy management is required.
Adept at working under time constraints and leading changing priorities to achieve results effectively is required.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a focus on interpreting data and drawing timely conclusions.
Preferred.
Proven record of working effectively with large, complex international teams is preferred.
Significant experience in vivarium operations is preferred.
Background in project management and organizational change is preferred.
Active in industry organizations and continuing education to stay on top of trends and practices is preferred.
Other.
Domestic and international travel required; up to 15%.
