OUR TEAM You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where computational scientists, physicists, biologists and mechanical and electrical engineer collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.
he Nanotechnologies for Neurosciences Research Unit is coordinated by Giancarlo Ruocco, who has extensive experience in condensed matter physics.
he research focuses on generating yeast-based biosensors expressing olfactory receptors of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.
This includes the optimization of the read-out signal of the modified yeast strains in response to specific external stimuli; high-throughput screening on libraries of VOCs (volatile organic compounds); de-orphanization of the nematode receptors and the calibration of the biosensors using dose-response curves.
Your main responsibilities will be:%26middot; Lab procedures including molecular cloning, PCR, Quantitative RT-PCR, western blot, RNA and DNA extraction, immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy.%26middot; Cell biology procedures including yeast cells growth and management, cell transformation.%26middot; Work with transgenic nematodes (behavioral assays).%26middot; Protocols optimization and development of novel protocols tailored to the project procedures.%26middot; Research support for image analysis (Image J), data collection and analysis (GraphPad Prism software).%26middot; Preparation of reports and dossiers.
