A revolutionary archaeological-Pb observatory for astrophysical neutrino sourcesThe candidate will be responsible for the development of a comprehensive background model for the RES-NOVA experiment.
This project aims to develop a new class of low-background cryogenic detectors capable of detecting neutrinos from Supernovae and studying other astrophysical events.
The technology underlying the project relies on cryogenic detectors made using archaeologically sourced Lead (Pb), whose signal is read by superconducting thermal sensors and amplified by superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID).
Through the use of Monte Carlo simulations packages (e.
.
Geant4) and precise measurements, the candidate will accurately characterize and identify the various sources of background that may limit the reach of the experiment.

The candidate will have the chance to spend extended periods at the Gran Sasso underground Laboratory (L'Aquila - Italy), and at the Triga Mark II nuclear research plant (Pavia - Italy).
