INTERN FOR WILD BEE IDENTIFICATION WITHIN THE “WILDBEES” PROJECT, SPECIAL PROJECT OF THE BIODIVERSITY MONITORING SOUTH TYROL

For the project WildBeeS, special project of the "Biodiversity Monitoring South Tyrol" (BMS), we invite applications for the position of intern in the field of entomology, with special focus on wild bees.
The ideal candidate has gained profound experience in the preparation of insects and the identification of wild bee genera.
The working location is Bolzano/Bozen (ITA).
BMS is an ongoing survey of biodiversity that serves as basic research but is also intended to provide a scientific base for political decisions concerning spatial planning, agriculture, and nature conservation.
BMS surveys animal and plant groups that react sensitively to climate and/or land-use changes, at habitat and landscape levels.
These surveys occur in 320 terrestrial and 120 aquatic sites distributed over the entire province of South Tyrol ( km²), including a large share of the diversity of habitats in the region.
In this special project, wild bees were surveyed in a selection of BMS sites along gradients of land use intensity, elevation, and urbanization.
The habitats surveyed range from intensive meadows, extensive meadows and pastures to mountain urban areas.
Tasks.
Support in presorting of insects and wild bee preparation Support in the identification of wild bees Support in digitalization and management of data Requirements.
Bachelor/master's degree in biology or Environmental Sciences (or similar; degree obtained not more than one year ago).
Experience in the preparation of insects Experience in the identification of wild bee genera, wild bee species identification skills are of advantage Good English skills, additional skills in German and Italian are advantageous Good interpersonal and collaborative skills to integrate in a working group Efficient organization skills We offer.
