hips Leisure are the exclusive hiring partner for Orient Express and are now recruiting for roles for the new build team, based in the shipyard before sailing with the vessel.
Roles will commence during Summer .
We are looking for experienced CHIEF ENGINEER ready to join the vessel for sea trials in December Contract 2 months on/off Salary in USD/per month  Position Summary 1.
Overall responsibility for the entire technical operations and equipment onboard, including engineering, electrical and mechanical divisions.

Ensuring that all systems and equipment of every sub division of the technical department are operating correctly and are maintained to the highest possible standards in order to support the safe navigation of the ship.
That all are in accordance with Company policies, any National or International standards and in compliance with Public Health or any other prescribed regulations.
3.
Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and cooperation with all ship’s departments.

Responsibilities 1.
Responsible to lead the safe and effective operation and maintenance to the highest possible standards of all main, auxiliary and domestic machinery and technical equipment.
2.
Overall responsible for the safe and efficient operation, repair and maintenance of the following (to include but not limited to).
a.
Main Engines, Diesel Generators, Propulsion Machinery and associated auxiliary equipment.
b.
Black and Grey Water Collecting and Treatment System.
c.
Boilers and Steam Plant.
d.
Oily Bilge Water Separator.
e.
Sea water cooling system, fresh/technical water system.
f.
Fuels and Lub.
il Purifiers.
g.
Air Compressors.
h.
Fresh Water Generators, Evaporators and Reverse Osmosis.
i.
Deck Machinery.
j.
Garbage Management and Treatment System.
k.
LSA – Life boats, Tenders, Rescue Boats propulsion and steering, Davits Cranes Winches l.
Chlorine, pH control dosing and metering equipment for potable water system (bunker, production, distribution.
m.
RWF (recreational Water Facilities) Chlorine, pH control, filtering system.
n.
Emergency D/Generator maintenance and test.
o.
Dead Ship Recovery Generator (CLIA) maintenance and test.
p.
Water Tight Doors and Semi-Watertight Doors hydraulic system.
q.
Fire Screen Doors including sliding doors pneumatic system.

Fire Extinguishing Water pipeline and valves.

Incinerator and garbage equipment system.

Responsible for the management of the electrical sub-department.
4.
Responsible to the Captain for ensuring that the engine department personnel comply with procedures and instructions concerning safety and environmental protection.
5.
Responsible for the implementation and upkeep of the vessels planned maintenance systems, plant history and inventory systems.
6.
Responsible for budget preparation and follow up within the department.
Working closely with the Superintendent in preparing budgets.
7.
Assigns engine room watches in accordance with the VMS, identifying composition of the watches at a minimum for normal operating conditions and conditions other than normal identified by the Master.
8.
Maintains compliance with all aspects of the ISM code, all relevant National, International regulations, flag stage, port state, local and SMS requirements.
9.
In consultation with the Master, determines the advance needs of the intended voyage, taking into consideration the volume of oil and fuel required, water, lubricants, and any other necessities ensuring that substantial quantities are onboard.
Controls the fuel consumption to the best level possible.
10.
Responsible to know the handling characteristics of the vessel, including stopping distance.
Has a full knowledge of every aspect of safety features of the vessel.
Being fully conversant with the Company’s VMS.
11.
Assists the Safety Officer with regards to the ship’s safety and particularly for the engine room and other technical space safety standards.
12.
Responsible for educating the Staff Engineer so that he is capable of taking over as Chief Engineer should the need arise.
13.
Prepares and issues ‘Chief Engineers Standing Orders’ for the safe and efficient technical operation of the ship.
14.
Responsible to be familiar with the operation and location of all lifesaving, fire-fighting and pollution prevention equipment.
15.
Monitors the condition of fixed fire fighting systems and portable fire fighting appliances within technical spaces and ensuring they are in constant readiness.
16.
Overall responsibility to ensure all within his department are trained and familiar with their duties and have the ability to carry them out.
17.
Ensures that all engine personnel are trained with the engine room alarm systems with special reference to the CO2 alarm.
18.
Ensures that safe working practices are implemented and followed by all personnel within the department.
Also ensuring that contractors working within the department receive OH&S briefs, training and familiarization.
19.
Responsible to conduct monthly OHS self-inspection (per form SAF112), including overall oversight of PPE inventory, condition and maintenance within the engine department.
20.
Participates in shipboard management meetings, maintenance meetings, health and safety meetings where required.
21.
Responsible to carry out fuel and ballast operations as per Company procedures and to prevent pollution of the marine environment.
22.
Ensures that sludge, bilge water, oily water and exhausted oils are disposed of in accordance with International, National and Company requirements and instructions.
23.
Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in onboard system to cover planned and unplanned maintenance.
24.
Ensures that machinery certification is up to date.
25.
Makes machinery available for survey by the Classification society and, if authorized by Class, carrying out items of Continuous Survey Machinery according to Class recognized procedures.
26.
Ensures that all records, manuals and technical drawings are updated and maintained in a correct and usable format.
27.
Ensures that appropriate machinery records are maintained and reports complied for management and Classification Society.
28.
Provides information and consultancy during inspections.
29.
Participates in the development of on board operational plans in accordance with all technical, legislative, safety and procedural specifications, to support the successful completion of maintenance periods and works closely with the Hotel Department on all maintenance issues, ensuring a minimal impact on the shipboard operation.
30.
Keeps the Master promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.
31.
Responsible to develop emergency and damage control plans, competently handling emergency situations.
32.
Responsible to give the Captain a positive report prior to each departure, that the vessel is ready for sea with regard to the responsibilities of the department.
33.
Attends arrival and departure maneuvering.
34.
Executes close cooperation with the officer responsible for the ships stability.
35.
Submits required reports to the Marine Technical department in an accurate and timely manner.
36.
Conducts daily communication and strong cooperation with the Staff Engineer to review progress and agree on work prioritization.
37.
Overall responsible for the entries made and maintaining a correct and up to date Engine log book, technical or waste related logbooks, including the Oil Record Book, Wastewaters discharge, Ozone Depleting Substances, Oil to Sea Interfaces, Marine Fuel Sulphur.
38.
Ensuring that all within his department hold the correct certification required for their positions.
39.
Liaises with the HR Manager with regards to personnel issues, so they can be effectively dealt with (i.
.
staff planning, skills, shortages and other training).
40.
Maintains a consistent and fair corrective action system.
Ensures that correct disciplinary procedures are adhered to especially with regard to correct handling of written warnings and record of same.
41.
Controls and approves department overtime and working hours.
Making the best use of manpower by managing the hours worked by each crew member and monitoring the financial impact on the business, ensuring each employee works according to his/her contractual hours and in compliance with ILO and MLC work/rest hours.
Completing all relevant documentation and finding alternative solutions in case of an anticipated increase in overtime, in order to fully comply with Silversea policy and procedures at all times.

Executes strict practices to ensure that the engine room is operated in accordance with the following regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions, reporting to the Captain any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.

43.
Ensures that standards are maintained within the department and officers and ratings are working according to their respective job descriptions, evaluating performance and development of the team.
Implementing corrective actions when standards are not upheld.

Establishes a climate of openness and trust within the officers, works as part of the team to achieve results.
45.
Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
46.
Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
Safety Duties.
1.
Participates in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions.
2.
Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
3.
Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
4.
Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Delivering training, guidance and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.
Education/Experience/Qualifications.
1.
Valid STCW certification.
2.
Valid CoC A-III/2.
3.
Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
4.
Extensive experience as a Chief Engineer is essential.
5.
Must have a strong ability to detect and identify the cause of machinery faults.
6.
Physically and medically fit.
7.
Moral integrity is required.
8.
Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses.
9.
Alaska experience is a plus.
10.
Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
Language requirements.
1.
Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical).
English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels.
This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members.
Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Computer knowledge.
1.
Good knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft office applications.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions.
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting.
Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders.
Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs.
The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules.
Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments as well as an office environment.
