Therefore, IIT has been launching a Research Data Management (RDM) institutional plan aimed at unlocking the full potential of research data, as the main fuel to innovative data-driven scientific approaches. This plan includes investments in three main directions: infrastructures and tools, policies and guidelines, and training and support. In this context, the hiring of an application engineer is foreseen for the coming years. YOUR TEAM You would be working in the Application Management Office of the ICT Directorate, a multi-disciplinary group where people collaborate, each with their own expertise, to design, develop, deploy, and maintain software solutions to answer requests coming from research or administrative units, in close collaboration with the Research Organization Directorate. This job will provide you with a unique opportunity to play a key role in the design, development and application of innovative tools and applications to manage research data and processes in a heterogenous research domain. We aim at implementing an ecosystem of integrated services and tools for RDM, grounded on a shared layer of (meta)data standards. The technical infrastructure can be sketched as a layered architecture of hardware, software and service components. We are looking for an Application Engineer that will take care of the entire life cycle of applications involved in the RDM platform, by following the areas below: Work closely with research groups to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions for data storage and sharing. Design, develop, and maintain software applications and tools to support research data management processes in compliance with institutional policies. Implement and optimize data pipelines, workflows, and integration between informative systems, research data platforms, research systems (e.g., LIMS, ELNs). Conduct training sessions and produce technical and user-friendly documentation for research staff on data management applications. Collaborate in open data repository management (application maintenance & upgrade, integrations, input & searching tools). Develop and deploy solutions for data curation and metadata management by exploiting external services or by developing custom solutions. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with: A degree in STEM disciplines (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar) and/or 3+ years’ experience in IT working area. Good knowledge of API integration (REST, SOAP). Good knowledge of Git versioning system and practices. Good knowledge of containers and devops technologies (such as Jenkins, Docker, ...). Knowledge of application stacks (e.g., Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, NGINX). Good knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., shell scripts, Python). Good knowledge of database management systems (SQL, NoSQL). Good knowledge of English language. Strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to work in a challenging and international environment. Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to address user needs. Good knowledge of AGILE processes and methods. ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS Hands-on experience on software engineering or development. Experience with data management tools and platforms such as Dataverse, iRODS. Good knowledge of privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default principles. Familiarity with scientific research workflows, data lifecycle, and FAIR data principles. Basic knowledge of data-management and ETL tools development and integration. COMPENSATION PACKAGE Competitive salary package for international standards.
